Ozayr Vally

Director Safety & Medical Services

Cape Medics was founded in 2004 by Ozayr Vally (just Vally to those who know him) an advanced life support practitioner with over 15 years of experience in the Emergency Services, Medical, Rescue, Military and Remote Site Medical Support environments.

After serving in both the South African Navy, at sea, and in the South African Military Health Services, his last military posting was with the department of Training Research and Development for Operational Emergency Care Practitioners (Military Medics, South Africa). Here he was responsible for the outfitting and training of Medical Staff destined for the frigates and submarines that the SANDF had acquired.

Vally resigned his position in the SANDF as one of only five qualified Advanced Life Support Practitioners, but is still involved in the military environment and still has close ties to several departments in the military.

Vally identified a clear need for a fresh take on EMS, Fire, Rescue and Safety services supplying the film and television industry in South Africa. Government and Private operational emergency services could not adequately service the industry as it is not possible to dedicate already scarce resources to a film shoot where these services are required for the duration of shooting a film or series.

Within this environment and thanks to the vision Vally had, Cape Medics has grown into an organisation capable of handling any event of up to 120 000 people and is able to supply every EMS service that the film or event industries may require, including but certainly not limited to: Fire Fighting Service, Ambulances, Rescue Vehicles with complete rescue packages (jaws of life, aerial rescue, fire search and rescue and more). The company has also given medical support to many industrial clients including the oil and gas industries where we can supply every medical need from staffing to equipping clinics, sourcing consumables, and providing specialised ambulances even in the most remote areas.

“A medic is very little without his gear and this gear is nothing without a qualified, competent medic” (Maj Gen Ramos, 3rd Med Battalion, USAF, 2000)

Cape Medics currently holds a massive inventory of equipment including several fully equipped and stocked Ambulances, Advanced Life Support or Intensive Care Ambulances, 4x4 Ambulances and response ambulances, multi casualty disaster trailers and full helicopter ambulance conversion kits for Eurocopter EC120 and EC 135’s.

Our Equipment is of the highest standard and is frequently serviced and quality checked ensuring peace of mind for that ever unwanted, but inevitable time when the best equipment used by the best practitioners are going to come together to save a life.

Cape Medics has continued to grow year on year and has engendered a philosophy and work ethos that is unrivalled in South Africa. Our Medical Staff are trained to the highest standards and are kept up to date with the latest evidence based treatment modalities. Our Set Medics are all experienced operational medics with a required time spent in an EMS environment before being utilised on set. A mentorship program ensures that every Set Medic has some supervised experience of a film set and understands the unique environments and challenges that a film set presents, this means that they are also familiar with set etiquette and proper behaviour on set, thus ensuring a pro-active and always ready medic who understands their job on set.
